Light-coloured Natural Stone

Stone tiles have a natural beauty that makes them a desirable finish for floors and walls.  Natural stone refers to a variety of materials including Marble, Travertine, Granite, Limestone, Slate and Sandstone.

Whilst each of these has slightly different properties, most natural stone materials tend to be porous, therefore it is important that the correct adhesive systems be used. The porous body may ‘leach’ the moisture out of the adhesive, which can adversely affect the curing and performance of the adhesive, and compromise the integrity of the installation.

Using a suitable rapid-setting high-strength adhesive will ensure that the adhesive cures sufficiently before too much moisture can be absorbed into the tile body. White or light coloured natural stone tiles should be fixed using TAL MARBLEFIX, a light-coloured rapid-setting high-strength adhesive designed for use with light-coloured natural stone tiles, where a grey adhesive may show through the light-coloured product as ‘staining’ (contrast).

NOTE : The same principle applies to grey or dark-coloured natural stone tiles, where a light-coloured adhesive may show through the dark-coloured porous tile body as ‘staining’.

NOTE: Certain marble, travertine and granite products have a reinforcing-mesh or resin-backing on the backs of the tiles which, due to the nature of the fixative / resin used to bond the mesh onto the back of the tile is not compatible with cementitious tile adhesives.

Please contact TAL if the natural stone product to be used for your installation has a reinforcing-mesh or resin-backing, so that we can advise on the correct installation system.
