How to cut wall tiles

By Tal | 2013-07-24

It’s important to approach tile cutting in the correct way to avoid damaging the tiles and harming yourself.

Straight cut

  • Use a pencil cutter to score the glazed surface of the tile on the measured mark, using another tile as a straight edge. Use a tile grate to neaten the cut area.

  • Use a tile breaker to apply pressure on the scored tile to achieve a clean break. Use a tile grate to neaten the cut area.

Curved cut

  • Use a pencil cutter to score the glazed surface of the tile along the curved measured mark. Break the tile using a tile breaker and use a tile grate to neaten the cut area.

Small semicircular cuts

  • Use a tile nipper to nip away at the edge of the tile to create the required cut. This method can be used for any shape cut. Use a tile grate to neaten the cut area.

Cutting a hole in the centre

  • Drill a hole through the tile; insert a rod saw blade through the circle. Attach to hacksaw and cut the required hole. Use a tile grate to neaten the cut area.
